Construction Debris in Houston: What to Do With It
City bulk pickup does not take construction debris. Knowing the actual options before demo starts avoids a pile sitting in the driveway.
What the city will not collect
Houston's heavy trash program excludes construction and remodeling debris: drywall, lumber, tile, concrete, roofing, and fixtures from a renovation are the contractor's responsibility.
Leaving it at the curb usually results in a citation to the property owner, not the crew.
Roll-off dumpsters
Best for full demo or anything with concrete, tile, or roofing. Confirm placement — driveway boards under the rails prevent cracked concrete claims.
Ask about weight limits. Tile and concrete hit the tonnage cap long before the box looks full.
Bagged debris services
Good for small bath or kitchen jobs where a roll-off will not fit or the HOA will not allow one.
Hauling it yourself
Transfer stations and construction landfills accept contractor loads for a fee by weight. Tarp everything — untarped loads are a ticket on the freeway.
Separate as you go
Keeping metal, clean lumber, and cardboard separate during demo takes almost no extra time and cuts disposal weight. Metal often pays for itself.
Decide the disposal route before demo day and price it into the job, not after the pile exists.
